Biodiesel in Automobiles

With the traditional petroleum resources getting depleted day by day, the researchers predicts these fossil fuel will get vanish sooner which makes us to go in search of an alternate source of fuel. Thus biodiesel makes its way as an alternate fuel that one could rely on. These biodiesel is generally obtained from vegetables, animal fats, soybean oils, plants and animal waste. This biodiesel can be used directly as fuel or can be mixed with the existing petrol and diesel. The use of biodiesel brings down the emission of toxic material during combustion. When biodiesel is used complete combustion of the fossil fuels occur which results in reduced emission of unburnt hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. However burning of these biodiesel results in producing nitrogen which might be hazardous to the environment composition, thus research is going in this field to make it convenient in usage. Biodiesel seems more advantageous than the conventional fuels as it is safer and is easy to handle. It is toxic free and thus does not pollute the surroundings. Biodiesel doesn’t contain sulphur in it as it is made from vegetables. The automobile giants are working on new a vehicle that runs efficiently on the bio diesels. Thus these biodiesel acts as a better replacement for the traditional petroleum.

Piston

An engine is usually comprised of what called as piston. The piston is used to transmit the power to the shafts and this power is obtained by the internal combustion of the petrol or diesel. The piston is usually cylindrical in shape and is closed at one end on its other end it is connected with the connecting rods for it’s to and fro motion. The piston is usually made as alloys of steel or aluminum. The piston is generally surrounded by piston rings in order to make it air tight. There should be a proper lubrication between the piston and its ring because the to and fro motion of the piston generates friction as a result of which the life of the piston rings might go down. Hence lubrication has to be provided to increase the life of the piston. The piston rod in turn connects with the crank shaft which is responsible for the rotation of the wheels. Thus the piston comprises of a piston rings and piston pins. The piston pin connects the piston and the rod. The piston which is responsible for transferring energy has to be lubricated and well maintained. The efficiency of the engine depends on the ability of the piston to transfer the energy.

Brakes

Brakes generally used to slow down the speed of any vehicle. Brakes are of different kinds. The leg brake is the one used on rear tyres and the other one is used on the front Tyres. Vehicles can have brakes in the form of drum or disc or they may have latest braking systems such as an ABS. drum brake creates friction on the rotating wheels using there pads or shoes to stop wheel rotation. Drum brakes are cost effective and are used in rear wheels as they produce less heat when applied. However the heat generated can damage other braking components connected to the drum. The disc brakes are advancement of drum brakes. Here there is a disc and a brake pad mounted on the rotating disc. When brakes are applied this brake pad exerts mechanical force on the either side of disc and brings it to halt their by stopping the vehicle. While braking there is a higher chance of vehicle getting locked, to overcome this difficulty anti-lock braking system is introduced which prevents the vehicle from getting locked while the brakes are applied. Thus the recent developments in automobiles have raised a development in brakes as well thus providing us a safety and efficient drive.
